Andy Howells · Freelance Web Developer · Hampshire Based

Bespoke websites and business systems, built properly.

One experienced developer writing the code, no amateur developers cutting corners and no agency inflating your budget. I work to understand your needs and your business, and you can ring me whenever something needs taking care of.

200+ projects
delivered on budget and on time. Brochure sites through to web applications with a dozen bespoke Laravel systems in the last four years, still running reliably.
16 years
coding professionally, mostly in the PHP world - the unfashionable language that trendy developers love to hate (that quietly keeps over 75% of all websites going).
Just one number
to ring when something needs doing. No ticketing system to wade through and no support portals. Just me on the other end of the line when you call.
01 / About

Why work with me?

Beard may vary in length depending on workload

I believe in providing straightforward answers to complicated questions.

I'm Andy and I've been coding professional software for over 16 years, the vast majority of it in PHP based projects. WordPress for businesses that need a brochure website to convert visitors into customers, or using the Laravel framework to deliver systems that help my clients run their whole business effectively.

Working with me means you're talking to the person doing the work. There's no account managers waffling on about sprints, no rookie developers making bad decisions and accidentally deleting your database of customers, and no agency padding the budget to fund their artisanal coffee addictions.

Every project I build has a simple goal in mind - make it easy to use no matter how complicated the functionality. I operate on the principle that if something can't be explained to you without acronyms or jargon, then it's not the right feature for your business. I do the same with my proposals, contracts and invoices so you always understand what's happening at each step.

I don't try to juggle too many projects at once, which means you get fast replies, direct phone calls and someone who works hard to understand your business.

And I'll communicate with you in plain English and not try to bamboozle you with mysterious technical jargon to masquerade as a genius.

  • No ticketing system and no support portals.
  • Rate based quoting with no hidden markups.
  • Plain English contracts with no law or tech degree required.
  • Direct phone & email, I'm the one who takes care of everything.
02 / Services

Two kinds of projects.

Usually my projects fall into one of two camps. Either way, I collaborate with you to figure out what you actually need before scoping the work, quoting it honestly, and building it with no surprises or upsetting bills.

03 / Process

No mystery.
Just reliable delivery.

Every project follows a similar path. You always know what's happening every week, and exactly where your budget is going.

→ Step 01

The Conversations

We start with a phone call or two where you tell me all the problems you're trying to solve and I'll ask the questions other developers don't bother to ask and we'll figure out together what needs building.

Sometimes the real answer is that I'm not the right person for the job, if so I'll tell you that for free and help guide you to the best alternative.

→ Step 02

The Proposal

At this point I write a full proposal document or straightforward quote, outlining a proper scope based on our calls, structured around hourly and daily estimates with a clear payment structure.

This is all written in plain English with zero expensive surprises tucked away in subsection 34-2.B of the fine print.

→ Step 03

The Build

I get stuck in working on delivering the milestones we agreed together, with each chunk of work reviewable and signed off by you before the next one begins.

You get to review at every stage, flagging anything that's wrong and I get everything perfect before we move on to the next milestones.

→ Step 04

Launch & Support

Your new site or system goes online knowing that I'll be on hand (or available on the phone any time) to fix any bugs for free for 12 months.

Hopefully you'll tell someone else about how great your project was and how much you loved working with me - that might even be how you heard about me!

04 / Recent Work

A few things I've built lately.

A small selection of projects. Get in touch if you'd like to be added to the list.

Got a project?
Let's talk.

Picking up the phone is the fastest way, but if you'd rather type, the form works too. Either way, I'll get back to you within a day.
